Financial Peace University - Week 1

We can't take any of the classes available in our area so I posted on LLNOE asking if anyone would be interested in starting a class after the new year. A handful of people said they were interested, so we have a class. They have a password accessed area for people in FPU, so we have a place for the discussion part of the class.

We started with Super Savers last night. Like Marty said... it wasn't anything we haven't already read (we have read most of Dave Ramsey's books) but it reinforces what we know we should - but don't always - do.

We started a bit early, because of Marty's schedule, so this week we will discuss Super Savers. The lessons are as follows:
1 - Super Savers - Done!
2 - Cash Flow Planning
3 - Relating with Money
4 - Buying Only Big, Big Bargains
5 - Dumping Debt
6 - Understanding Investments
7 - Understanding Insurance
8 - Retirement and College Planning
9 - Buyer Beware
10 - Real Estate and Mortgages
11 - Careers and Extra Jobs
12 - Collection Practice and Credit Bureaus
13 - The Great Misunderstanding

If you are working your way through FPU, here are some things that might help.

If you were in charge of managing the finances for the Corporation of You, and you managed money for the Corporation of You like you do for you, would you fire you? - Dave Ramsey

I can't wait to hear how you like this. We have already worked on the baby steps and had gotten pretty far. Now we are back to the pay off debt one. (I actually have the 6 months part done so I'm kind of piecing this together.) But I've often though the course would be a great way to really drive home the points of the program even more!

So far, we love it! It has been a great motivator... Marty told me yesterday he is ready to see whatever we have to (even if it is everything,) get out of debt and save for Hawaii. He is done. Woohoo!
